How to Program an Avanti / Centurion Compatible Garage Remote (TX4, MPS, DPS, SDO21/12)

Pairing a compatible Avanti or Centurion remote takes under five minutes using the red and blue buttons on the motor. No original remote needed.

Time required 5 min
Difficulty Easy
Tools needed
  • The new compatible remote with its battery fitted
  • Access to the buttons and display on your Centurion or Avanti motor
  • No tools required
Before you start Make sure nobody is standing under or near the door while you program and test. Do this within a few metres of the motor so you can test straight away. Keep the remote and its battery away from children; if a coin or button cell is swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Press the red learn button

On the motor, press and immediately release the red learn button. The display on the motor changes to show 'bu'.

  2. Press the blue minus button

Press and immediately release the blue minus (-) button. The display now shows 'ru', which means the motor is waiting for a remote.

  3. Hold a button on the new remote

Press and hold the button on the new remote that you want to operate the door. Keep holding until the light on the motor strobes to confirm the code has been learnt.

  4. Wait, then test

Wait about 5 seconds, then press the programmed button. The door should move. Repeat the steps for any additional remotes.

Frequently asked questions

I do not have my original remote. Can I still program this one?
Yes. This remote pairs directly with the Centurion or Avanti motor or receiver using the learn button, so an original remote is not required.
The display never shows 'bu' or 'ru'.
The buttons need a quick press and release, not a hold. Try again, pressing the red button first and the blue minus button straight after.
The light on the motor did not strobe.
Keep holding the remote button a little longer and stay close to the motor. If it still does not strobe, replace the remote battery and start again from step 1.
Which button on the remote should I use?
Any button can be learnt. Most people use the top button for the main door. Repeat the process with another button if you have a second door.
Does the remote come with a battery?
Yes, a battery is pre-installed. If the LED on the remote does not light when you press a button, replace the battery before troubleshooting the programming.
